BYU Football Return-to-Play Performance Center

Custom Performance Solutions Designed Around the Athlete
At XPT Fitness, every project begins with understanding how athletes train, recover, and perform. Our latest installation at Brigham Young University’s Football Return-to-Play Training Room is a perfect example of what happens when innovative equipment meets a clear performance vision.
Working alongside Head Athletic Trainer Colbey Clawson, we designed and built a completely customized strength and rehabilitation system that maximizes training efficiency while creating a clean, organized, and highly functional environment for recovering athletes.
Unlike traditional commercial gym equipment, every element of this installation was engineered specifically for BYU’s space, workflow, and performance objectives.
Built Specifically for Return-to-Play
Returning an athlete safely to competition requires more than simply rebuilding strength. It demands precision, progressive loading, movement quality, and efficient use of space.
This custom installation was designed to support every phase of rehabilitation while also providing the tools necessary for injury prevention and long-term athletic development.Key features include:
- Custom 9-foot-tall performance racking system.
- Custom BYU colors and branding integrated throughout.
- Built-in weight stack stations.
- XPT Motorized Resistance System.
- Integrated storage for bars, attachments, and accessories.
- Space-efficient layout that keeps equipment organized and training areas clear.
Advanced Motorized Resistance Training. A centerpiece of this installation is the XPT Motorized Resistance System.
Unlike traditional cable systems that rely solely on gravity, the Motorized Resistance System provides smooth, consistent resistance throughout every movement while allowing coaches and therapists to precisely control training variables. This technology supports:
- Progressive rehabilitation.
- Explosive power development.
- Concentric and eccentric overload training.
- Isometric training.
- Sport-specific movement patterns.
- Functional strength development.
These capabilities allow therapists and strength coaches to tailor resistance to each athlete’s stage of recovery while preparing them for the demands of competitive football.
Designed for Efficiency
Organization plays a critical role in a high-performance environment.
Integrated storage throughout the system keeps barbells, attachments, accessories, and training tools easily accessible while eliminating unnecessary clutter. The result is a cleaner workspace, improved training flow, and more efficient coaching sessions.
Custom Solutions for Elite Programs
No two facilities are the same.
Rather than forcing programs to adapt to standard equipment, XPT Fitness designs custom performance solutions around each facility’s available space, coaching philosophy, and athlete needs.
Thee BYU Football Return-to-Play Training Room reflects that philosophy—combining custom engineering, premium construction, and innovative performance technology into a system built to serve athletes for years to come.
Whether helping an athlete return from injury or preparing healthy athletes to stay on the field, this facility is equipped to support performance at the highest level.
